I'm not sure I totally agree with that, although I dont disagree either. I think the susceptibility for the fuel to detonate is more a property of the fuel itself. Higher octane fuels have a higher ignition point, which allows you to generate more energy within the chamber before it begins to detonate. But, if it does work, and you can add timing, it is going to make more power.

What some people dont seem to realize is that our engines, if it were possible to do so, would make their peak power and torque at significantly higher timing advance. We are having to pull the timing waaaaay back in order to keep up with our fuel's tendency to knock. The synergistic property of exponentially increasing a gas temperature by introducing more particles into a chamber of decreasing volume is the reason why timing advance makes more power. But its the temperature that catches up to our fuel..

We will have to see I guess - once I get everything together and on a dyno, I'll have to do a spark-plug dyno shootout.
